I’m feeling very, very appreciative at the moment! Well, I always try to focus on the great things in my life and our beautiful world, as you know, but right now I’m so full of gratitude I could burst! I’m going to share a few of the things on my list, and hope you’ll use this as a chance to reflect on everything you appreciate in your life too!
Okay, so first up, my job. Being an author is so, so utterly awesome. First, there’s the variety. In the past month I have worked on an upcoming Virtual Reality project for my new YA trilogy; got the artwork through for three gorgeous picture books for a lovely publisher and thoroughly enjoyed poring over every detail; written a proposal for a new middle grade series and had a great lunch (involving being served strangely giant fish which were bigger than the plates, which amused us all!) with a beloved publisher of mine with whom I’m developing it; and finally, spoken to a fellow author about adapting their book into a TV series (I’m also a screenwriter). OK, so the fish wasn’t quite as big as this one, but I couldn’t resist the pic!
Then, my kids. It was Holly’s 8th birthday this month, and Freddie’s 6th. Holly’s dream birthday party involved hanging out and shopping in town with her friends, including, of course, a trip to our beautiful local bookshop, The Haslemere Bookshop. I was always going to love that, and we all has great fun choosing a book each. I got the awesome and giant Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare. Freddie wanted an party at our fantastic local ice cream parlour, Dylan’s… that’s my boy! And it involved stretchy men, as you can see!
And… everything! Spring is beginning to become sprung, I’ve had loads of fun with my pony, there have been impromptu meet-ups with old friends and new, and exciting plans for the future are coming into focus. And I’m not planning for it to end any time soon – I’m going to keep appreciating, because I know that that’s the quickest way to see even more great things come into my life! Also, if you’re feeling good, you’re much better placed to help out those who aren’t feeling so great with a friendly word, a hug, or some serious action. So, here’s wishing you a happy happy day!
