Springtime babies…

Dawn baby

This is me when I was a baby!

Today is the Spring Equinox, which means Spring has officially sprung, and we’re heading for SUMMER. Whoopee!

I love this time of year – it feels so hopeful. Sprouting seeds, buds on the trees, lambs in fields, eggs in nests, baby animals galore… it’s a time for new life and fresh projects.

Do you have a new plan, idea or dream which needs nurturing, watering and growing?

HNTBW cover Dawn McNiffMy own ‘spring baby’ is my new novel for 9-11 years – How Not to Be Weird (Piccadilly Press) – which will launch into the world on April 7th (more on this in my next post). Other new projects: writing books for 5-8 year olds, learning to grow herbs, and walking more (getting of my bottom).

So now, in honour of the spring and all things young and tender, I thought I’d give you a list of books with bouncing BABIES in them…

514lbAAzZKL._SX318_BO1,204,203,200_The Year of the Rat by Claire Furniss. 15 year Pearl has to help look after her new baby sister when her mum dies. Brilliant, funny and moving. A YA book.

The Giant Baby by Allan Ahlberg – a total classic. Full of hilarious scrapes and very big booties.

Greenling by Levi Pinfold – a picture book for all ages. A beautiful, chubby-cheeked, green baby lets loose the power of nature across the land. Surreal and enchanting.

Little Celeste – my own novel for 9-11 year olds about a girl who finds a strange, lavender-eyed baby on her bed – arrived from nowhere. Is it a fairy, an angel, or just a dream? But the baby’s nappies are real enough, and she needs feeding NOW…

Happy Springtime!
