Guy Fawkes Night

It’s firework night, and while fireworks are very pretty and can be lots of fun, they’re VERY dangerous. They can also cause lots of distress, especially to wild and domesticated animals.

My dog, Indy, is TERRIFIED of fireworks. We keep her in and she spends the night barking so we have to turn the radio up REALLY loud to try and mask the bangs. If you’re celebrating with fireworks then PLEASE follow these simple rules.

1.) NEVER play with fireworks.

2.) NEVER carry them in your pocket.

3.) Let an adult light them.

4.) Use a torch to read the labels and not a candle or naked flame.

5.) Hold sparklers at arms length.

6.) KEEP YOUR PETS INDOORS.

7.) Check that there are no sleepy animals, like HEDGEHOGS hiding in your bonfire BEFORE you light it.

And finally, a BIG ask…if everyone could celebrate on the 5th, or as close to as possible, instead of celebrating the event for weeks before and after, it would make life a lot happier for those people and animals who find fireworks distressing.

What are you doing for Firework Night? Will you be cowering indoors or outside, seeing stars?

  1. Blimey – nearly forgot to get some sparklers – thanks for the reminder! I’ll be having a very fizzy night – indoors and out, with fizzing sparklers and fizzy plonk – celebrating publication of NIXIE WONKY WINTER WONDERLAND today! Buddy the cat will be under the bed in my room and Bramble the dog will try to follow him and will have to be coaxed out with lumps of cheese when it’s all over. Not sure if Bramble is actually afraid of fireworks – that dog’ll do anything for cheese. Hope Indy copes OK.

  2. Hi Julie! 😀

I like to see the fireworks, but only from indoors, safe and able to calm Sophie (my cat) 🙂

I do like to go and see the bonfire that is always at the end of the street. It’s nice to see it, but very dangerous for my Asthma, that’s why I only stay there for about 5 or 10 minutes. I hope you have a FAB night and give Indy a hug and kiss from me, ❤

  3. Hi Laura,

That sounds like a good plan. I hope you enjoy your time at the bonfire.
Indy will love the hug and kiss. She’s a very sociable dog.
