writing

August 2015

I LOVE August! Not only is it school holidays but my birthday is at the beginning of the month. When we went to buy my birthday present, we saw some statues of pigs that were rather fun. My family were here and we went on to Waddeston Manor which is a huge old house near where we live. It was a great day and I had a day off writing. I’ve been working flat out on my next book. I’ve completed the first draft and the plot is now more or less where I want it to be.

I’ll now re-edit it and make everything work towards the final scene. I’ll also start making the characters come alive. My main character is undeveloped and a bit boring at the moment, but I know how the friendship with her sister is going to be special and how she is soon going to start jumping off the page. By the time I have finished with her, she will be like a close friend.

Next week I’ll write less as I’m helping our church’s holiday club and doing drama with key stage 2 children. It’ll be fun and probably chaotic.

Then we are all back at school and autumn will be here. If you are looking for something to do next week, why not make character cards for some characters you could write about. Think about what your character looks like, does on a Tuesday evening, likes eating, goes on holiday and would like to do next week.

Enjoy getting to know your new teacher, as well!
