It’s a wonderful but strange feeling, launching a book into the world. Take Silver Skin, for example. I’ve been writing this book on and off for about 4 years. The characters have been living in my brain all that time, getting realer and realer by the day. It was my job to write their story – and re-write, and re-write, and re-write, trying to get it as right as I possibly could! Part of that is working with other people – editors and publishers and designers – to tweak and fine-tune and present the story as amazingly as we can.
And then that’s it. We’ve all done the best we could. In a weird way, the book’s not mine any more. It’s in the world – it belongs to the readers.
That’s you, I hope! It’s your book now!
Joan Lennon’s Silver Skin is a tale of adventure and romance, set in the mysterious Stone Age village of Skara Brae, where the far future meets the distant past. Published by Birlinn, it will be launching itself into the world next Tuesday. There will be cake!
