I usually blog on the 28th of each month but last month Tamsyn Murray blogged for me instead (thank you Tamsyn) because I was away in Venice with my husband. I’ve always wanted to go to Venice, I thought it sounded an amazing place. I’m setting one of my books in Italy, with my character going to Venice and Rome (can you guess where my next trip will be?) so it was fantastic to actually go and see it for myself. As we cruised along the Grand Canal in the gondola and island-hopped in the Vaporeti (water boats) I could see why Venice has been such a source of inspiration for artists and authors over the years.
Lots of places have inspired my stories. I lived in Cornwall for many years, I loved the golden beaches and the quaint cobbled streets so chose that for the setting for the Amy Carter Mysteries.
A trip to Spain to visit my daughter ten years ago was the inspiration for a romance novel.
And I have a notebook of ideas from other places I’ve visited, and hope to use many of them in future stories.
What places have inspired your writing?
