Have you planned your wedding?
Many little girls plan their weddings. I remember conversations with friends at primary school in which they would explain exactly what their dress would be like and how many bridesmaids they’d have, what colour scheme etc etc. (The groom wasn’t really involved in the scenario, I should add, except for a vague “oh, he’ll be tall and handsome of course”)
I don’t remember having much to contribute. I wanted a nice dress, of course (I was VERY into dresses) but somehow I couldn’t actually imagine myself getting married at all. It just didn’t seem very ME, if you know what I mean. Even as a teenager – even in my early twenties – I still didn’t really believe I’d get married.
And then I met the right person and suddenly getting married seemed absolutely like ME. So I did. And I had the dress and the flowers (though not the bridesmaids – FAR too much trouble to work out who to choose!) and the cake and the music and the lovely food and the wonderful family and friends. And the groom. Not an afterthought at all, but the most important part. Awww.
And the reason I’m sharing this with all of you is that our very own Karen King has just got married! And she’s actually on her honeymoon RIGHT NOW which is why she’s not writing a blog post today
(it seemed like quite a good reason to us). So I’m sure you’ll join me in saying a humungous CONGRATULATIONS KAREN! and we wish you and your husband much happiness in your future together
And so tell me, GHBers – have you planned your wedding? What’s your ideal dress? Tell all!

Hi there Jo! I’m up SO EARLY today!!! Might yet finish my tea and go back to bed. x
Shall say that, WELL DONE KAREN! YAY!!!
I’m SO happy for you!!!

I think, for me, i'll side-step this, as its too heartbraking for me to answer.. My late boyfriend, he was going to ask me to marry him on New Years Eve but, his illness took him first, on Boxing Day of 2008.
xxxxxx
Oh Laura, that’s so sad
I’m so sorry xxx
It’s fine. All good.
LOVED your wedding dress By the way Jo

Thank you, Laura.
I’m so so sorry about your late boyfriend. So sad. x
Hi, Joxx LOVELY post! And congratulations to Karen!
My ideal wedding would be a little…unconventional. For a start, I want to get married in a pink, Indian-style trouser suit- a white dress isn’t very me and would be too easy to get dirty. And no dress code for the guests, the bridesmaids or the groom- if they want to turn up in jeans, that’s fine.
At the reception, there’d be lots of lovely veggie food and plenty of music to dance to. And, at the end of the night, there’d be a campfire, with mulled wine, hot chocolate and a truckload of marshmallows.
Omigosh, now I want to get married all over again and do it your way! That sounds like a FAB way to celebrate a wedding! I’m all for being unconventional. We had a barn dance, no disco, fireworks and an improvised comedy show! And our cake was nothing like a traditional wedding cake either. Obviously I’m biased (LOL) but I still think our wedding was a lot more interesting than most of the ones I’ve been to! You stick with your plans – it’s great to be individual!
Thanks, Jade. I got married in ivory dress with burgundy sequinned trim on the bodice and skirt. My little granddaughter told me I looked like a princess!
Congratulations Karen.
Wishing you both many years of happiness, health, wealth and love <3. xxxxx

I planned my wedding a lot when I was younger. I wanted a nice Church wedding, filled with flowers, white & yellow roses. Everyone in nice dresses/suits. My two best friends would be Bridesmaids – either Emerald Green or Royal Blue dresses. My wedding dress would look like this: http://dragongirl1.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d1a4jw9 (hope the link works, I designed that dress, sorry for poor picture quality)
The service would be short but heartfelt followed by a party with lots of food and dancing – particularly cake.
The groom would be tall and handsome but that's about it.
Hope it happens one day.
Beautiful post
Oh Bex, that dress looks really beautiful – simple and elegant
I wonder if you’ll still want the same dress if you get married? I always thought I wanted a sweetheart neckline, but when I tried on a dress with that kind of top, it looked AWFUL on me! And I changed my mind so many times about different things when it finally came to planning the Big Day – I even changed my mind about my dress (and wasted a bit of money, oops) though I was really happy with the one I wore on the day.
I’m glad that cake is important in your wedding day, LOL. Cake is quite possibly one of the most important things in life
Thanks for writing this post, Jo, and your dress was lovely. xx
Thanks,
I would still quite like that dress, but as you say – would ahve to see what it looks like on me. Might be horrific! :/ We’ll have to wait and see.
I think every Bride changes her mind at least a dozen times! At least you had a great day in the end.
Cake is definitely one of the most important things in life!!! Making cakes is one of my hobbies, starting more elaborate designs.
If I ever meet you at a book signing/event, I will bring you a cake.
P.S thanks Karen.
I haven’t planned my wedding, I’m not too bothered about boys (excluding Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.)
